	The UKAS approved laboratory and testing facility offers a diverse range of testing services to industry. The analysis and testing undertaken cover many aspects of metals and engineering industries. Routine physical testing includes tensile strength, proof stress, elongation, hardness, impacts etc and is carried out on a wide range of materials. Chemical compositions are determined by optical emission spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy and classical "wet" chemical techniques. Materials tested include steels, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminium, nickel and copper based alloys. Alongside the routine testing is a facility to undertake extensive metallurgical investigations and development projects. Metallographic techniques using microscopy can be used to determine the possible causes of failure of metal parts. Routine testing can generally be carried out within 24 hours.
