Situated
in South Wales, U.K., Caparo Tubes, (Tredegar) Division were pioneers
in the production of a range of quality cold-formed welded tube and hollow
sections manufactured by the electric resistance welded (ERW) method of
production. The plant's three mills manufacture a range of sizes and qualities
dedicated to providing customers with a product specific to their requirements
supported by high service levels. Products for the structural market are
manufactured to EN 10219 S275 as standard but JOH, J2H and JRH can also
be specified. For applications where there is a requirement for enhanced
impact resistance at low temperatures the Caparo developed Caparo Cold
Formed S355 ma. (micro alloy) can be specified. This material gives improved
weldability and enhances its suitability for the galvanising process,
being superior to other higher strength options. Alternatively, EN10219
S235JRH can also be specified.
For more specific applications mechanical tubes to EN10305 E220, E260
and E320, pressure-tested tubes to BS1387 and scaffolding tube to EN39
are produced. Where further processing is required a range of facilities
to cover the needs of the market is available. In addition to longitudinally
welded tube the spiral mill facility produces tubes from 400mm dia to
1575mm dia, which are welded both internally and externally providing
additional strength over conventional single weld tubing.
